I have worked in the field of reproductive health for nearly 20 years over a range of roles from developing direct care programs to serving as a health educator.

My work as a writer has primarily focused on science communication, guided by a passion for breaking down viral studies and topics that are misrepresented or misunderstood. I have been published in both academic and media publications, including the Washington Post, WireCutter, Eater, Aeon Magazine, and Jezebel.

Areas of Expertise

Since 2010, I have worked as a consultant with a variety of companies from large scale corporations to small start-ups, both independently and as the manager of larger teams. I have particular expertise in designing, launching, and evaluating community based care programs, particularly in rural communities, including mobile and intermittent clinic programs. All of my work is united by the common thread of using innovative approaches to combat social determinants of health and bring access to underserved communities.

I am passionate about working with organizations and programs from their early stages or in developing new efforts, helping to make ideas a reality. My projects have included work on:

SExual and Reproductive health

I got my start in reproductive and sexual health as a peer health educator in college and have worked in the field ever since in various roles and in countries around the world. It is critical to customize programs to the specific communities served - in many regions sexual health is a sensitive subject and work in the field requires careful conversations with the people served.

Rural Health

Providing care in rural communities presents unique challenges and opportunities. I have experience working in rural communities both in the US and internationally, building programs that deliver services to hard to access regions, prioritizing the needs and priorities of the communities, and addressing issues of trust in the healthcare system to effectively bring a wide range of healthcare services to most of the underserved areas of the world.

Mobile Health

Mobile clinics are a proven means of bringing care directly to vulnerable communities facing barriers to care. I have extensive experience designing mobile and intermittent (pop up) clinic programs (new or expanding existing programs) deeply rooted in the community. I also bring a knowledge of the practical elements of the work including clinic design, funding, supplies, and staffing requirements.

Coalition Building

No problem exists in a vacuum and most solutions benefit from an interdisciplinary approach. I have experience building coalitions on a national and local scale that incorporate the voice, experience, and feedback of organizations, community members, and leaders. Whether it’s organizations collaborating on policy development or building stakeholder engagement for health programs, coalitions play an essential role in moving work forward.

communication strategies

Whether a company is a small nonprofit or a global corporation, success hinges on communication. In addition to content writing for websites, blogs, and social media campaigns, I have worked with companies to design patient education and compliance programs, health education curricula, and marketing campaigns.

STRATEGIC PLANNING AND PROGRAM EVALUATION

Building an idea into an effective program is an intentional process. Program planning requires thoughtful efforts and community collaboration to establish an organization’s short term and long term goals and how to evaluate their desired impact. I have experience going through this process at various stages as a founder, an executive, a program director, a consultant, and a staff member.
